TRAINING REQUIREMENTS & LINKS
All coaches (head and assistant coaches) are required to complete ALL the requirements below to coach and for USA hockey to approve our team rosters.
Please retain any certificates just in case we need verification. We will ask you to forward any copies after teams are formed.

If your are selected to coach a team for the 2024 - 2025 season, HSE Hockey will reimburse you for the cost of the background screening, the USA hockey Age-Specific Module and the USA Hockey CEP required to coach for this season. Reimbursement instructions will be sent to coaches upon selection.
STEP 1: OBTAIN A USA HOCKEY NUMBER
Registration with USA Hockey is required every season and you must have a valid USA Hockey number before you are added to a USA Hockey roster. New registrations start on April 1
STEP 2: CREATE ACCOUNT IN USA HOCKEY COURSE SYSTEM
Log in or create an account in the USA Hockey Course Registration and Certification Course Registration System. This system can be used to check your status for CEP, on-line modules, screening, SafeSport status and be used to register for the USA hockey coaching clinics (next step).
STEP 3: REGISTER FOR A USA HOCKEY COACHING CLINIC
Coaches must complete a USA hockey coaching clinic (offered by MidAm or USA Hockey) by December 31st. You can only attend one clinic per season and all coaches start at Level 1.
All coaches must register and complete a USA Hockey coaching clinic as part of the Coaching Education Program (CEP). Once Level 4 is achieved, coaches will need to complete 5 credit hours of continuing education within each subsequent three-year period (does not apply is you received Level 4 prior to 1/1/2021.
STEP 4: COMPLETE BACKGROUND SCREEN
A background screen is required every TWO seasons (not calendar years) and must be completed.
For the 2024-25 season, the cost of the screening must be initially paid by the individual and HSE Hockey will reimburse. Please submit your background screen receipt to the HSE Treasurer
STEP 5: SAFESPORT TRAINING
SafeSport is required every season. You must complete all sections. Save your certificate upon completion.
STEP 6: AGE SPECIFIC MODULE
Coaches must complete the age-specific module for the age group you will be coaching. Save your certificate upon completion.
STEP 7: CONCUSSION AWARENESS TRAINING
Coaches must complete concussion awareness training through NFHS; please do not enroll in similar courses. Please register and complete the ‘Concussion in Sports’ course. Save your certificate.
