Rule Changes from USA Hockey National Congress

(6/28/2007) USA Hockey has changed the following rules for effective for the 2007-08 Season. Rule 304: All players 19 years of age and younger are required to wear a colored internal mouthguard. Rule 301: The maximum curvature of a stick has increased from 1/2" to 3/4". Watch out for those bananna sticks. Now most of the NHL blades should be legal for USA Hockey. Rule 626 (f): High School teams will play "tag up" off sides. No exemption required! Rule 639 (c): The criteria for a penalty shot has changed. Instead of "directly from behind" the new standard will be "outside the player's peripheral vision". That means a record number of penalty shots should be called this season! The Rulebook also states that for the 2009 season and beyond goalie pads will be limited to 11" widths, down from the currently allowed 12" pads.

Annual Blue/White Top 40 game

(6/26/2007) HSE Hockey held its tryouts last weekend. Sixty four players skated, skated, skated, and skated some more. The kids were divided into four teams. Each team completed three sessions consisting of drills and scrimmage. From that the coaching staff selected the players for the "Top 40 Blue/White Game" on Sunday afternoon. The Blue/White rosters can be found on the tryout page. Players should be receiving emails by Thursday notifying them of their Player/Coach meeting time. Players will be notified of their team placement at that time. Rosters will be posted after everyone has attended their Player/Coach meeting. This years tryout was one of the most competitive ever. The depth of talent in the HSE Hockey program is excellent. I know the coaching staff, players, and parents are looking forward to exciting seasons from all three teams. Congratulations to all the HSE kids. Good luck this season.

Morning rain does not dampen the spirit at HSE Golf Fundraiser.

Golfer on the Tee (6/24/2007) The morning looked bleak as a light rain sprinkled over the Hawthorns Country club. But afternoon clearing and a large dose of HSE Hockey spirit made this years golf outing one of the most successful ever. First of all, special thanks to Jim Martin, Jane Jessee, Tammy Moritz, and Tyler Tranberg for all your hard work on the 4th annual HSE Golf Fundraiser. The outing raised over $7,000 for the HSE Hockey program. Special shout out to Jim Cochran for his donation of silent auction items that raised over $1,000. Thanks to all of the sponsors and the people who donated prizes. Twenty foursomes, eighty golfers total, took to the course. First place and more importantly, bragging rights, went to the team of Logan, Cohoat, Jones, and Scripp. The second place team was Burkhart, Ko, Jamerson, and Madden. Finishing third was the team of Cefali, Ponsler, Goltschlich, and Bowman. Other awards were closest to the pin. On the 6th it was Jordan Williams and on the 15th it was Keith Slifer. The big hitters (longest drive) were Larry Scripp on #9 and Dave Powers on #11. Great job and thank you to all the golfers, volunteers, sponsors, and donors for your support of the HSE Hockey program.

HSE Players Mortiz and Klingensmith represent Mid Am District.

USA Hockey Congratulations to Max Moritz and Alex Klingensmith. Max has been selected to participate in the USA Hockey National Select 15 Camp in St. Cloud, MN. Alex Klingensmith has been selected to participate in the Select 15 Mini Festival at Kent State with teams from the Mid Am, Massachusetts, Atlantic, and Southeast districts. Nice Job, fellas.
