New Features to debut in September

Senior Showcase (8/12/2007) There are three new website features that will be unveiled in September. The first is called "Senior Showcase". This feature will profile a Senior player from the hockey club. Each Senior player will get their picture and feature run for 3 weeks on the website. In addition to "Senior Showcase", the "Player Spotlight" feature will highlight a couple of players each week. Both of these features will include pictures and profiles of the players as well as a "head shot" on the home page. Terri Blackwell has already started contacting the first couple of players. Terri will contact players 4-5 weeks before their feature is scheduled to run. This should give everyone an opportunity to gather their pictures and information and get it submitted two weeks prior the feature so we can get it on the website in a timely manner. The third feature is "Coaches Corner". Each Head Coach will be writing an article for the website every month. This article will cover anything the coaches wish to share with the hockey club. Also, a couple of you have asked about the "calendar" feature of the website. We are currently waiting on our ISP provider to upgrade to SQL 2003, which is scheduled to occur this week. After that, the "calendar" database will be populated and made available with all the practice and game dates. I apologize for the delay in getting this feature up and running.

Acceleration Indiana Wins President's Award

Acceleration Indiana (8/12/2007) Long time HSE Hockey sponsor Acceleration Indiana recently won the President's Award for its success and dedication to athletic development. Many HSE Hockey players have "survived" the hockey treadmill. A few have even joined their "Casper Club". Congratulations to Gary Nelson, David Nelson, and the rest of the Acceleration Staff. Thank you for your continued support of the HSE Hockey Club. There is a great article on Acceleration Indiana on the Indy Star website. Search their recent archives for "A winning idea: developing athletes one at a time."

HSE "Big Buddy" Program

Big Buddy Program (8/2/2007) The Big Buddy Program is a mentoring program between HSE Hockey players and elementary school age boys who are in need of a positive male role model. The buddies meet every other Monday at Hoosier Road Elementary during the hockey season. The hockey players supervise homework and also have open gym time. Many of the buddies have even served as stick boys at HSE home hockey games. The goal is to form a bond between the older boys and the young boys so the younger boys feel they have a "buddy" to talk to and hang out with. The impact that our hockey boys had on the little buddies last year was significant. We are looking forward to another successful year for the program. Our boys have made us proud by giving back to the community! If you are a player on the HSE Varsity 'A' team and interested in participating in this program, please contact Big Buddy coordinator Kelly Lattal.

IHOA Announces 2007-08 Referee Clinics

The Indianapolis Hockey Officials Association (IHOA) has announced the referee seminar dates for the coming hockey season. Every on-ice official must attend a seminar each season. This is a great way to earn cash to pay for that new composite stick. You work with the Scheduler to work games that fit your schedule. You can earn from $14 to $28 per game, depending on the level. See the IHOA website for more information about becoming an official or upcoming seminar dates.
